Morality is a set of moral principles, and moral principles are rules which distinguish right and wrong in human behavior. Historically, religions played a major role in defining morality. However, they have not established one that was able to rise above and go beyond the little boxes people tend to put other people in. And it is not given that religions rooted in the 1st millennium or earlier can speak clearly to the high-tech generations of the 3rd millennium about morality.
Life’s Message is a new religion for the 3rd millennium that provides a transcendent and practicable basis for distinguishing right and wrong in human behavior.
The primary obligation of the speaker for any religion is to illuminate the way to its goals. As The Speaker for Life’s Message, my job is to deliver the message as completely and as clearly as I can. It is not within my purview to critique other religions.
The attitudes, beliefs, and practices of a religion depend on the attributes of the supernatural entity the religion embraces.
The supernatural entity that is the heart of Life’s Message is God, and God has the following attributes:
The Immutable Universal Laws include the laws of matter and energy and their interactions, the laws of substances and the transformations they undergo, and the laws of living organisms and vital processes.
What is currently known about these laws is categorized as physics, chemistry, and biology respectively. Scientists hope these bodies of knowledge are converging on the Immutable Universal Laws, but they know their best efforts might always fall short. It's often said that we're already close enough to solve a number of important problems, and the scientific and technological advances of the last century support this assertion. It's yet to be determined whether science is up to the problems of the 3rd millennium or not, but either way, mankind has come a long way from the belief that these phenomena could be controlled by magic spells and rituals.
How and why God created the universe and life are beyond human comprehension, and they are not questions humans need answered. The same is true of any attributes that God has in addition to the ones enumerated above. There is no compelling argument that shows that anyone’s life would be better or even different if he or she knew the answers to these questions. Anyone who claims that he or she would love, honor, and obey God if He would just appear in person, make a full and complete disclosure of Himself, and answer all of his or her questions is either delusional or just making excuses for not believing in Him.
God is not a mere super human being. He is a supernatural entity, and he is separate, distinct, and apart from all the elements of His Creation. It is not given to humans to understand the mind of God.
Humans are only one element of the Creation, and one should not think long about God and religion without asking, what are humans in the context of Creation?
All members of the Animal Kingdom are mortal, and humans are animals. There is nothing remarkable about humans at birth, however, by the time they reach puberty, they have internalized a complex language and the customary attitudes, values, beliefs, social forms, material traits, and behavior patterns of the people they've spent a lot of time with. They're still more like big babies than little adults, but they're already noteworthy animals. If there's anything that's worthy of the title "human miracle," it has to be the tremendous capability that humans have to learn and to pass knowledge on to succeeding generations. This is what distinguishes them from all other Earth life forms.
All of the things that a pre-pubescent human internalizes are collectively referred to as his or her cultural heritage, and it is unique to that individual because no two people, not even identical twins, internalize the culture, or even the same event, in exactly the same way. Adults are for the most part slaves to the pre-pubescent observations and experiences that make up their cultural heritages, and it's a mixed bag. Denigration of a Black by a White speaks louder to cultural heritages than a thousand lectures on equality, and it says different things to Blacks than it does to Whites. A large number of the cultural descendents of the people who enslaved the Blacks and massacred the Native Americans are alive and well in America today, and they're teaching the young. The American culture is the most violent culture of the industrialized nations, and everyone is paying a price for this.
Biological heritage, on the other hand, is the set of genetic qualities that is transmitted to an offspring by his or her biological parents at conception. Among other things, it determines roughly what the individual will look like and many of the capabilities and limitations, strengths and weaknesses, and immunities and susceptibilities of the body he or she is going to have. Biological heritage is culturally neutral and does not determine future attitudes, values, beliefs, or behavior.
The nature of God's relationship with his creation flows directly from who He is.
God would have to violate Himself in order to do this. He will not violate Himself to do favors for humans no matter what their reasons for asking. The obvious consequence of this is God can't do miracles if the word means that He creates singularities in the Immutable Universal Laws for the benefit of an individual or the individual's friends. It's fortunate that God is constant because most Earth life, and surely 3rd millennium mankind, would cease to exist if the Immutable Universal Laws were to change arbitrarily. It’s also fortunate because it makes it possible for humans to discover how the universe works and apply that knowledge for their own benefit.
The things that God will not do for humans pale into insignificance compared to the things that He has already done for humans. He created humans on a planet with sufficient resources to satisfy their needs and with the intelligence to develop and utilize them. He gave humans bodies that were well suited to the environment and minds with unlimited capability to dream of possibilities. He bestowed the human miracle which allows each generation to benefit from and build upon the progress of past generations. He gave each human an inexhaustible reservoir of inner strength to help him or her overcome adversity, subjugate his or her carnal desires to his or her intellectual desires, and build peace of mind. He also gave each human a great deal of power to control the health of his or her own body.
Humans are the only member of the Animal Kingdom God gave the power and authority to control their own destiny, and humans generally agree that God has endowed them more richly than any other life form on Earth and like to enumerate their proofs of superiority with respect to other life forms. It is impossible to deny that mankind enjoys an extremely beneficial position in God’s Creation. It is also impossible to deny that the position is a gift.
In spite of everything that God has given humans, mankind is not the center of His universe. Nor is mankind essential to Him. God is God no matter what humans do with His gifts, and any adverse consequences of human behavior fall upon human heads; they cannot be laid at the feet of God. And because God's gifts were perfect and complete, He has no need to manage humanity on a day-to-day basis.
Only within the last century have humans developed the power to render Earth unfit for human habitation. However, they have always had, thanks to God's glorious gifts, everything they needed to create Paradise here on Earth.
This paradise is a human society where everyone's first priority is to be a friend and a good neighbor, and no one need live in fear because of the color of his or her skin or the name of the God he or she worships. It is a place where no baby goes hungry or is unwanted or unloved, and no one tries to exploit other people or profit from their misfortunes. Everyone has an equal chance at life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness, and the opportunity to reach his or her full potential. Everybody can live out his or her handful of years at peace within him or herself and in harmony with the rest of Creation.
This paradise will not come into existence through inadvertence or by happenstance, and it could be that humans are already too far gone in self-indulgence to make the effort to build it and make it work, but it would be a wonderful place to live and the best of all possible worlds for future generations of mankind.
There is only one personal goal worthy of God's gifts, and that is to live in a manner that is a clear and resounding vote for Paradise here on Earth. This is the only sacrifice, sacrament, and ritual that has beneficial efficacy. And the behavior required to satisfy this goal automatically generates the clear and consistent example that teaches the young the way they should go.
Every human life is either a vote for Paradise here on Earth or a vote for hell. There are no abstentions, there are no extenuating circumstances, and lip service doesn’t count. The perfect life is one that is dedicated to being a good example of a full fledged resident of this paradise. The emphasis is on being a good example and not on trying to browbeat others into being one. Residents of Paradise here on Earth understand that the only way to win converts is by their example and not by their words.
The criterion is quite simple. All that matters in the long run is what an individual does. And talking aloud in the presence on another person is doing. It doesn’t matter what a person believes, knows, thinks, or thinks he or she knows; it only matters what he or she does. A person is what he or she does and is responsible for what he or she is.
Everything a person does has some impact on the groups within which he or she lives, and it is the responsibility of the primary caregivers to make absolutely sure that the children in their charge understand this before they reach puberty.
Fully fledged residents of Paradise here on Earth do not behave the way they do because they think God is looking over their shoulders and waiting for an opportunity to micro-manage them. They behave the way they do because they know that the emotional, mental, and spiritual rewards that accrue to individuals who live up to the full potential inherent in God's gifts are well worth any effort in doing so.
The moral principle of Life's Message it that behavior that leads to Paradise here on Earth is good and right and that behavior that leads anyplace else is bad and wrong. This is the Alpha and the Omega; all else is commentary.
